Thinking of having pink sand in my 29 gallon and am wondering if anyone has had experience with it. Does it look funny over time or is it cool looking?? Also, if anyone had any pictures they could share I would be greatful for a chance to see it in a tank.

Thanks in advance.

It's samoa pink sand and it's for marine tanks. Maybe this helps:

I don't care about the "containing beneficial bacteria" B.S. as I know that's mostly a pile of doodoo, but I'm wondering about the color long term. It seems that it's collected this way?

I'm just thinking that the pink might add something a little different....an alternative to the basic white or black sand.

Thanks :good:

By pink, I thought you ment properly pink dyed sand... Thats the stuff on the bottom of my new system. It is fine to use, but I can't realy comment on its colour long term. I assume the pink will stay though, as it is collected like that :good:

me too an i was worried lol. that stuff doesnt look bad at all

I've got it in my tank - i think it looks nicer than the normal sand but to be honest after a while you don't notice it, it's not that pink! My sister chose the other sand and I do prefer the overall effect of the pink - but it really isn't pink, pink if you know what I mean - it's just pink crushed shells I believe mixed with the sand - however, saying that I would buy it again :good:

hmmm....Thanks seffieuk. I'll buy a bag or a few. Any idea how much sand I'd need to cover a 30"x12" to 5 or 6" deep? They come in 20 lb bags. I'm thinking maybe 2?? I'm buying it online and really don't want to over buy as it's a pain in the rear to return it. I want to have a yellowhead jawfish in the 29 gallon and that's why it's going to be so deep. My other sand is crushed coral, and I've read that's not the best for burrowing fish b/c of the sharp edges. Right? That's why I was going to go with sand. Yet, I also read that it's good to have a little variety in the sands texture to allow for easier burrowing and making their tunnels. So 1 bag of Samoa pink crushed coral and 1 bag of Samoa pink sand??? Whatcha all think?

*I think I'll save my white crushed coral for the 120 gallon tank.

What do you think of this?

Reef Bugs

Replicating reef snow is now quick and easy with these revolutionary new products! Reef Bugs are actual living microbes that will inspire your corals to extend their polyps and have your scallops and feather dusters reaching out for a taste! Reef Bugs contain twelve strains of edible, non-pathogenic microbes in their encysted spore state. Packed with a mixture of nutrients including minerals, vitamins, and carbohydrates, these microbes will hatch in about 30 minutes from when they hit the water. The additional particles act as "carriers" for the microbes to "ride on" once they have hatched. If not eaten, they will begin to divide, supplying your reef with a medium where they can consume detritus and excess food. Also works in your refugium!

I decided I'm not getting the samoa pink sand after all. It will cost me another $25 or more to get them to me. I want a 6" sand bed in my tank (for a jawfish) and I'll need 4 or 5 bags at least. It's not sold locally and shipping to get it to me is crazy. I could buy a fish or two for that price.

I have a pink background on my bow front with very fine black gravel. The black makes the fish stand out and the pink shows off the plants quite nicely.

oh ok. That's different.

I'm having a black background on all my tanks. I like that look better for my tanks.
