im getting quite a high reading of hardness can anyone suggest anything that i posibly would have around my house or is very inexpensive to reduce this. see my fish can survive okay in this water and have done for some time but i just want to be careful as they are 'supposed' to be in softer environments aparently thanks in advance

You could dillute the hardness by using part distilled water or R/O water.

I would be vary wary of altering the hardness of your water as this may shock your fish if done suddenly. I have very hard water where i live and once tested an aquarium softener but found that the water just went back slowly harder over a period of a day or so which would not have been good if I had fish in the tank I was testing it on. A lot of water companies add buffers to the tap water to slow down corrosion to make the pipes last longer so you could just be fighting a losing battle IMO unless you stop using tap water completely  .

oh okay DAMN YOU WATER IN WEST MIDLANDS :p thanks for the help ill just leave it.
