I have aquired my parents old 20 gal tank that has sat empty for a few years, and I am trying to get it cleaned up for my new apartment. I used vinager to get off most of the hard water stains, but i can still see some qhite stains near the top. these no longer fell rough like what I got off with vinager- the glass feels smooth, but it still looks stained.

Any advice on how to remove the last of these stains? keep using vinager to disolve it? can I use anything more powerful? My dad wants to use something like lime-away, or use a buffing agent and his dremmil took to buff it away (he want to play with his power tools ;) )

Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

If your tank is very old, it may be that you have some boro-silicate glass. This can discolour and eventually become opaque when kept in wet oxidising conditions. There is nothing you can do about it. Certain types of drinking glass put in a dishwasher show the same problem. They slowly turn white.

Without seeing it, I can't really comment further.
