I find myself looking for ages at my amonia result. Does anyone else have this problem

Always, so hard to make a decision on the reading as you know you need to be precise :(

completely agree. My tip is to take bottled water and test that as well, then hold it up against the water you want to check. You will then be able to easily see if there is a hint of green in your samples when compared to the yellow of the bottled water.

Does anyone know if there is an ammonia test that just stays completely colourless at 0ppm?

Then it would be easy to tell if there was a hint of ammonia.

its quite hard unless you are in daylight, energy saving bulbs were a nightmare during the winter. the good thing is, if you are trying to read between 0 and 0.25 then your fish are relatively safe at those levels. Obviously 0 is ideal but the fish shouldnt keel over and die on 0.25. If in doubt, do a water change :)
