About 3 weeks ago my male giant had an accident/injury from keeping his head above water. It was like nothing I've ever seen...the scales between his eyes were sticking straight up,his lips were sticking straight out like a duck and he had what appeared to be a deep hole in his forehead. On the second day he got a severe case of popeye, I'm assuming he had water accumulated in his head from the hole. It was and has been, terrible.

So I moved him from his 4 foot tank and into a 1 gallon, which is a tight squeeze for somebody his size but I had to do it in order to do 100% water changes every day and add minerals to his tank at a high concentration. In the meantime my female is down in the dumps missing him, and vice versa :/

I just did his water change a few minutes ago and I fear I speak to soon but I do believe he is well now   Hole is gone, scales are lying down, his appetite is back, his lips are still a little ducky but other than that,he looks great!! I almost started crying when I looked at how well he was! The best feeling evah! I was worried sick over him and I just want to see him grow to his full potential

I think I'll keep him in the 1 gallon for another day or two, and then him and his girl can go back into their split 4 footer

That's awesome Kelly! I know you were very worried about him. I'm glad your medication seems to have worked :)

Thanks you guys! Seeing him with no signs of illness was a great feeling, it made my day!!

uggh, he always does that! He parks his butt on a plant and rests there, leaving his forehead a bit exposed. Right before the incident I had moved him from one 4 foot tank and into an intended breeder 4 footer, I'm guessing he was in a draft and it dried his head out. His tank had no lid on his side because he'll never jump (laziest fish evah!), that's only my observation though. It happened within 3 days of being in the new tank :dunno:

But his park and expose habit has made it hard to heal him. He kept exposing his boo boo! So I had to practically cover it with plants to keep his head down there.

I've since relocated his tank, and I have no intentions of breeding him any time in the future ,now. Unless he tells me otherwise  ;)

I'm glad that fretting over my fish has amused you.

I'm so happy for you wuv!!! :hyper: This is excellent news! You must be so relieved to see that he's ok.

And don't worry that SOME people are making fun of you crying for your fish... :grr: I to, have been known to cry for my little friends, not only when they've passed away, but when I have to see them in pain or suffering. I would do anything for those little guys, and I know you would too wuv.

Lol sorry it just seemed so funny...... lol but shhh!!!!! don't tell anyone I was crying because I thought my fish were dying when they were pooping and I thought it was their intestines. Well...i was 4 and it was my first fish... =/ I thought fish poo was brown and stinky like human waste :p
