hello all, my Haplochromis sp. 44 "Red Tail spit out her fry today, lucky i just seperated her from the others :good: , now i am wondering how long do i keep the babies with the mother and when do i start feeding them? now? i am new to mouth breeders and this is my first batch, can use please tell me how to look after my fry?...thanks

Generally speaking with mouthbroaders, the egg sac is asorbed whilst the fry are still in the mothers mouth, I would remove her ASAP and feed the fry a high protein diet consisting of newly hatched baby brine shrimp and infulensa powder, First bites ( a powder fry food) is an excellent source of food.

Just depends, I've had it both ways. IME with the first couple of broods they tend to spit a little early, especially when in a holding tank, seems to take them a few times to figure it all out.

Excellent advise though PRW1988 :good:

Thank you very much :)

Good luck with the fry, I'd love to see some pictures, if you've got a chance :)

mine had 16 fry that she spit out. And another one holding as well. I will try to get some pics and put them in my journal that I have started.
