Well peeps I have been looking at the new Hanna checkers that are out on the market :drool:
and in particularly the Po4 checker to start off with to replace my D&D merk kit which has almost ran out, and the Hanna is only priced at £33.65 for the checker :good: then £6.65 for 25 regent tests :good:
so in the long run it is going to work out cheaper than buying merk kits every 4 to 5 months at £43 a pop. :grr:

Now my problem is which of the checkers do I buy, the phosphate{hi 713} or the phosphorus model {hi 716}

I would have thought the phosphate one but on other forums I have seen people using the phosphorus one. Which has confused me a little and now I just don’t know what to do for the best? Which one do you guys think I should go for?

Just a little update
after doing some more research I decide to go for the phosphorus model {hi 716 ppb}
WHY...
Well the phosphate {hi 713ppm}
Reads in parts per million and is only accurate to +/-0.04ppm :unsure:
And we need a reading of below >0.03 so that’s just not reliable enough for the salty side -_-
For e.g. the Hanna phosphate checker could have a reading of 0.00ppm on the screen but in reality it could actually be 0.04,ppm :crazy:
NOW
The phosphorus model {hi 716ppb}
Reads in parts per billion
There for giving an ultra low reading of phosphorus {yes phosphorus!!}
Now I know we need a reading for phosphate and HANNA have covered this!!
All you do is take the reading from the phosphorus checker apply a simple mathematical sum and it converts the reading to phosphate and believe me I was not so sure to start with but believe me I have tested this against my D&D kit and I am well imprested :good:
So know more expensive D&D test kits for me {£43 for 100 tests}. Just £7 for 25 tests x4 = £28 from now on :hey:

edit...

And best of all no more guess work :good: , is it this colour is it that :rolleyes: ask the wife :lol: ask the kids :rofl: and so on :nod:

Thanks for sorting this out for us and seems it works out cheaper and is reliable, its a win, win :good:

Seffie x

Yep as we all know D&D phos kits are considered one of the best on the market :nod: and I would defiantly put the HANNA phosphorus checker in the same brackets :good: , in fact my personal opinion is its better than the D&D kit as it takes the guess work out of it
Regards john,o
Ps cannot wait for the Hanna nitrate checker :hey: {it’s on my xmass list lol}

Is there a nitrate one, thought it was nitrite?

Seffie x

Yes seffie you’re correct there is a nitrite {model HI764} that’s out now!!!

But Hanna are also working on Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium, and Nitrate checkers :good:
The nitrate checker was penciled in for release this month {September} but they have been having some issues with it :/ , so the new date for release is December I think :dunno: just in time for xmass :hey:

Cool, good to see someone using this. I had some debate about these on another forum before with quite a few people that where saying they wouldn't be that good. I liked the idea of them because like you said they are a lot easier to read (matching colours is a really poor way to get accurate results).

Might have to ask for one of these for christmas :)
