Hanging power compact lights from ceiling?

I have a 4 foot Coralife Retrofit power compact lighting fixture, and I normally leave my hood open anyway, so I was thinking that maybe I could hang it from the ceiling, but have it only a few inches from the water? Ir maybe install and shelf on the wall and hang it from there?

There are alot of cables (the 4 from the lights, and then the 2 plugs), and it's a pain to move all these cables around when I take the hood off, and I'm hoping that I can leave the glass top off to allow for plants to flower and what now.

I know people do this with the metal halide lights, and I think it would work in my setup that I currently have and it would work more like a room light as well.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah it can be done, havent done it myself, but i was reading about someone that had done something similar to a tank in a living room where people would sit, they found that you had to be careful of the height you put it at so as the lights wouldnt be glaring into your eyes as you sat down, just something to keep in mind.

Maybe you dont sit in that room i dont know.
