Hi, they do look cool, but I'd advise against them. Simply because they aren't very practical when carrying out care. You'll have trouble fitting a heater in it because you'll have wires hanging from it and you'll need to keep taking it down to clean it. Also, because they hold a smaller volume of water, its harder to keep the water parameters steady.

Some of the pictures I've seen of them look much larger than the ones I've seen in person in pet stores, are they different sizes?

IMO, it may look kind of cool, but it's too hard to do basic maintenance, and there is always the risk of collapse if you don't have it anchored right. Water weighs about 10lbs a gallon.

I don't like the look of them, I also don't see the point in them. Why would you want a random "bowl" on your wall with a fish in it when you could have an attractive tank?!

They do look quite good in my eyes if the room is styled for it, it's about fitting things into a room in an attractive way some what Feng Shui. Some bowls/tanks just don't go right in some rooms and a wall mounted tank can look fantastic. However when I worked in a pet & aquatic store they were considered to be awful to maintain.

Truthfully, they aren't my cup of tea.

i am another that doesn't like the look of them either, already mentioned wires etc but it the big whole in the top that puts me off, i have had betta's jump out an 8 gal tank before, that is just asking for trouble IMO

I think the designs must not have been thought through enough, I think if it had some sort of lid it would not only be safer but it would be more appealing to the eye.

i don't think johns comments were rude, just his opinion...

re the fish bowls, not my cup of tea, can imagine keeping parameters perfect is difficult and maintenance is quite high. i would also worry that it's too small for the fish. but then, i have not looked further into it and i am sure there are different sizes available...

actually i think tanks are usually big bulky out of place and pretty ugly hanging bowls are perfect!

i asked for no rude comments john wain wright!

Josh, actually, but he was just giving his opinion which is exactly what you asked for. You gave yours so why cant he give his?

I think its a silly idea, the manufacturers are relying on good DIY skills in order to fix the tank to the bowl, and bowls arent good for anything anyway because you cant fit a filter or a heater in properly, resulting in fish all over the country being left in cold, stangnant, effectively toilets.

Everyone has there own opinions :)

I prefere the tanks in the room rather than on the wall, im like ladyriv, id assume they were too small and awkward to maintain but I no nothing about them so cant really judge.

Each to their own, but for me its a no no :D

Also this topic is from January....

I know this is an old topic, but my boss used to have a hanging tank. It was basically a half circle that screwed into the wall. He would give me twenty bucks under the table to clean it because it was so unwieldy and difficult. You had to unscrew it, and there was no good way to prop it up while you gravel vacced or anything. It was also much too small, and impossible to put a filter in.

The fish died while I was out for 6 months after an accident...I assume because no one else was willing to go through all that work to clean the tank.
