I recently started getting my water for changes ready in advance. I use a brand new Rubbermaid 20 gallon trash can. That's what they sell it as. I measured and, yep, it is 20 gallons. I run an old Penguin 150 power filter with no media or filter pads to keep the water circulating. Check out that heater ! Old school Hagen 150 watt. It's not a submersible. Just got it brand new. Yes ! They still make them. I add my dechlorinator and age the water three to five days before I change. Warm, aged and ready to go when I am. The total gallons of the four tanks in my little system is 33 1/2 so I have enough to do all four tanks and set up for the following week. This thing keeps my fish room humid too which my Aloe Vera plant likes. This makes water change day fun.
@Retired Viking I noticed a rotten egg smell to the water fairly soon after adding the dechlorinator and agitating it. I thought maybe this might be the chemical (sodium thiosulphate) reacting with the chlorine while neutralizing it. The next day that smell is gone. Old timers used to age their water and there's usually a good reason why guys do things. Might be time for this practice to make a comeback.
