I'm looking for something that I can use to keep my baby in when she wants to get out of the cage. Unlike the play pens found at Petsmart and Walmart, I want to get (or perhaps make) one that is impossible for my hammy to climb out of, and something that is safe to leave her unattended in (I onyl have the patience to play with her for 15-30 minutes, max, and she needs more time). I'd let her run around my room, but it is not hammy proofed, what with lots of wires, holes, etc.

And I left her on the bed while typing this message, and I just saw her running around under the bed. *sigh* Time to pick her up and put her back on my bed. :p

I already have a hamster ball, if any of your were planning on suggesting it. However, more than 15 minutes in the ball (from what I have read countless times) can stress a hamster out. :/

You could try a BIG rubbermaid plastic tub. That would also keep hamster waste off your floor. :)

I actually cage all of mine in plastic tubs, anyway. They're roomy and easy to clean.

How can you not have patience for you little baby?

A hamster BALL works. Or as I also said on HH a bin.

Like I said, I already have a hamster ball, and it's best not to leave the hamster in the ball for more than 15 minutes.

Sandbox is not possible since I live in a condo.

The tub could work (I was thinkng about that) since I have four of them to my right at this very moment. However, I don't think Tempest'd enjoy being in there, since it looks the same everywhere. Also, the point is to let her get a lot of room and lots of things to climb on and wiggle around so she works off some of her energy and doesn't make me feel guilty by continuously climbing up the cage bars and chewing incessantly to get out. :/

As for not having patience, it's quite simple... I can't chase her around in my bedroom for an hour at a time, every day, since I have neither the stamina nor the attention span for it.

Imagine spending up to 8 hours doing it. :fun:

Do different things. Play with her for 20 minutes. the put her in her ball for 15-20 minutes. Then you could put her in a big bin for 15-20 minutes. Thats about any hours worth.

That's what I did yesterday.

You know what happened? Five minutes after I put her back in her cage, she climbed the bars again and started chewing. *sigh*

Do you have a bathroom near your bed? maybe an en suite?

A clean dry bath is generally a good place to keep a hamster and you can fill it with whatever toys you like and its easy to clean afterwards.
Most of the play pens on the market arent suitable for syrians as they can figure out how to escape within five minutes, alternative would be to build a play pen to your required size out of wood.. if not try tub cages, they're also good.

:)

My parents decided to buy this crappy condo without looking at it at all, and we ended up with lots of messed up things, including a tub with chipping paint and rust. Therefore, I'm hesitant to put her in there, even with a blanket or sheet in the tub in case she gets underneath it. :/
