Hey guys, I recently bought a hammer coral 4 days ago, and it has this little worm looking thing in it. Here is a picture:
Sorry, my camera sucks

As you can see, the left and right look healthier then the center. Should I pull this little thing off?

Hey guys, I sucked it out with a lil turkey baster, and it came out. Sorry for the panic!

Hey all, I just went to go look at my tank, and I saw that my hammer has brown stringy stuff coming out of its mouth??? What is this???

It's expelling zooxanthellae symbiote algae. They typically do this when under higher light than usual, when stressed, or both. Typically this is normal/OK provided the coral recovers a few hours later or perhaps the next day. Either way, nothing you can do but wait it out.

Thanks ski :good:
But, I got another problem maybe you can help me with...
The hammer is really healthy, it seems as if it is getting bigger and bigger everyday. But it has a little gap near one of the mouths, it looks inflated like a bubble, is this normal? Here is a pic:

/shrug. Unfortunately there are lots of things about keeping these animals that we know little about

Hi there
I can't help with the problem, but I've had exactly the same thing happening on my torch coral for a month now. If it reassures you any the coral, like yours, seems perfectly happy and healthy. I think the coral head is slowly splitting in two, because I now have two mouths either side of the bubble where previously I'm sure there was only one. As I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you on this problem I'll keep you posted on developments. Don't bother changing position, lighting etc - it makes not a jot of difference! Also sometimes the bubble will get bigger, but then the next day its back to normal - so don't panic if that happens. The coral has grown loads since having it, it feeds and does all the things its supposed to. I don't think its sinister!!

hope this puts your mind at rest a bit

Hey bitfishy, my hammer is doing wonderful! Thank you for your help, about 3 days ago the bubble went away, and I noticed also that it now has a second mouth. It honestly feels like it gets bigger and bigger everyday. I have another question though, I noticed that the hammer touches my liverock behind it, will this cause any problems? (if you take a look at the picture above it shows it touching the rock) Thanks guys! :good:
