Two questions!

1. Can my guppies be pregnant, if they've got a gravid spot but not a big belly?! Both have a characteristic spot, but not much of a bulge...

2. Can my molly be pregnant if she's gone fat, but without a gravid spot?! - she's fat in the right place, and I don't think I'm overfeeding...

All answers greatly appreciated on the back of a postcard B)

1. Yes. Early enough in the pregnancy.

2. Yes. Depending on her coloring, she may or may not ever show a gravid spot.

i agree; i had a pale yellow female guppy who had a gravid spot but wasn't looking very fat/pregnant but a week later she delivered 11 fry.
Mollys don't usually show a gravid spot due to most of them being dalmation or black colored and these colors don't show gravid spots(may be exceptions in less spotted dalmations) as so do many other colors.
You'll know when she'll deliver as her chest will look quite big/square and so will her tummy.

I would go out and buy a breeding net to put the fry in when they are born and buy some fry food and you should do fine

In that case I may have to run a nursery! One of my guppies is also pale yellow...and although I've never really seen a gravid spot in 'real life'...it's almost identical to some of the pictures some others have posted! Very "tidy" pregnancy, if she is, though!...that's how I want to look if I ever carry my own 'fry'!

yeah ive got 5 female guppies in the 125 litre tank and they have all got the gravid spot and huge belly but none have had any fry yet?
is there anyway i can tell if there gona have the fry soon?
also i think my female platy is pregnant as she has a rounded belly but no gravid spot

Keep the tank temp at 26degrees and ensure that water quality conditions are top notch and make sure there is suficient planting/hiding places for the fish to hide in- if the pregnant fish feels the tank conditions are not right either because she doesn't feel water conditions are good enough or there aern't enough hiding places in the tank for the fry to survive and for her to give birth in etc, she may hang a bit longer until these conditions are good enough.
Either that or she is expecting a large batch of fry in which case she'll take longer than a fish expecting a smaller batch.

I see you have 4male platys and only one female in the tank which is way too many males- livebearers need at least 1male per 2females minimum.
I would either get more females if you have the space or rehome the female platy and just keep it to an all male platy tank as im sure she will be getting far too much harrassment/stress from all the males.

Well that pretty yellow one went down the toilet this afternoon

However, Molly is getting larger and larger! I hope the reason the yellow guppy died was a 'personal' one, not one that'll affect the others!

Will the pregnant molly 'behave' differently towards the end of her pregnancy...should I look out for tell-tale signs of some sort?
