My pregnant guppy gave birth yesterday and my last batches with other females they have eaten all the fry so this time I put alot of plants in the bottom of the divided part of the tank for the fry to hide in.

This female is a good looking one and mated with a very colourful male so I didnt want to have her do the same as the others so I started ciphening out the fry early.

I have collected 17 fry and the female still looks quite big and has a nice black gravid spot but she hasn't given birth to any more fry since yesterday. Have I been to hasty and stressed her out too much or could she just be having a break?

Any thoughts would help

Cheers

many many moons ago when I had guppies..... it was not unusual for my guppies to give birth to a number of fry one day and then three or four days later give birth to the rest. of course all I did back then was feed them clean them and leave them to their own devices.

it is very possible for a guppy to have a few babies one day and then keep having a few a day after that my mother inlaw had a guppy in a breeding tank and she had about 10 fry so she took them out and into another tank and that was 3 days ago and she is still getting babies out of the breeding tank today(about 4-5 a day)

i agree with all the above. The females sometimes wait because they become to exhausted and need to top up on energy... food! Just wait untill she looks totally deflated. Thats the only way i really can tell if the fry batch is over
