My harlequins have been showing an odd (to me) behavior.
They will swim up parallel to each other and stretch all of their fins out, then they'll start wiggling back and forth until they both kind of whip each other with their tails. Then they'll swim away for a second, then come together and do it again.
Is this some sort of show of dominance? Fighting for a mate? I haven't found any sites talking about this display and I've been curious of what they're doing.

The wriggling ones are the males. They are displaying to the females so that she will pick the best male to breed with. This does not necessarily mean that they will breed, but it does mean that they are probably healthy and happy.

Yes thats sounds like male's displaying, the females will tend to be looking for the strongest male.

Still dose not mean they will breed as Kat said.

yeah, mine do that too, i always figured it was some sort of mating dance or contest of males
