Hi all, would like to know what you think of the haitian cichlid, theres loads of babies at my lfs andI Was amazad to see what they grow up looking like.
I did some research and apparently they are one, if not the most aggressive cichlid out there- but whats your experience/verdict?

Not looking to buy one really dont have the space atm, just really interested in the species, many thanks.

i always love it when i come across cichlids i haven't heard of in my LFS. today they had 2 large freddy/freddie cichlids. they looked mean.

Yeah iv heared the Haitians are mean as hell. Make oscars look like an alter boy lol

Stay away from those, if you thought a pair of convicts were bad, think again.

i found a write up of someone who kept these cichlids

The Haitian cichlid aka Odo or "black nasty" is a very aggressive and beautiful fish. They are built to destroy other fish. And they do so with gusto! Males grow over 40 cm and females grow over 30 cm. My male Haitian cichlid, at only 15 cm, totally wiped out all the fish in "his" 680 liter tank. At 15 cm he killed a pair of 23 cm jaguar cichlids, three 29 cm texas cichlids, a breeding pair of 23 cm mayan cichlids, two 25 cm oscars and and a 23 cm red devil. If you thought that was bad, females are worse than males. My female haitian cichlid at 15 cm killed two 25 cm red devils! I still love this fish.

+1 ^

When they breed their color turns black and they turn into serial killers, they will go out their way to decimate tank mates.
Therefore the name, Black Nasty.

so i'd say steer clear unless you can give it a very big 400lt and over tank to live in by itself
