No it's not bad - my reputable lfs has it in many tanks and can't get rid of it even though they clean tanks weekly. The fish don't seem to mind too much when it's kept in check. Plecos will munch on it, but the kings of eating hair algae are flying foxes. I think many omnivorous fish will eat it, especially most livebearers.
