Yes, you read right.

I have started dosing vodka to get my hair algae under control.
It is a treatment that has shown promising results for others

Just wanted to see if anyone here has done it or heard about it?

Don't ask how it works.....that would be like opening a pandoras box of chemistry.

But we will see what happens.

Manual removal methods just aren't feasable. With nearly 300 lbs of rock, nearly 70 corals, and a dozen or so anemones, I just can't tear things apart....

How much vodka per gallon?

I'd give it a shot, mine's getting to be a PITA as well (and I've only got a 10g, but a bunch of zoas I'm trying to carefully pick around).

I just dropped a bag of chemipure into my sump and it cleared up all the hair algae. I've heard of the vodka dosing before.....one for me one for the tank.....one for me one for the tank....sounds like fun!!!!

You start at 1ml per 100 liters. Then after a couple of days another ml, then another after a few days. I have not heard of a agreed maximum does, but will stop at about 4ml per gallon and see what happens.

What you are doing is adding sugar. Vodka is easy to measure, and it is distilled, therefore a level of purity is ensured,

The sugar reacts with the nitrites to provide food for free phosphates. And instead of growing on a rock or such, the reaction stays suspended in the water coloumn, permitting the skimmer to remove them.

So obviously, a skimmer is needed for this method.

I have tried filter media, but unless you can really get the flow moving through the trouble spots, can be less than effective.

Time will tell.

You still didn't answer my question though do your fish act kinda of funny like they were at the bar last night.

i'm pethetic i know but its the first thing that popped in my mind when i heard it. :hyper:

Well, 1mL per 100mL sounds like I could OD my tank WAY too easily.

So, I think I'll try the chemipure, although the one for the tank, one for me vodka *does* sound like fun :p

Its not Sugar that you are dosing, its the ethanol, there are Bacteria that use the ethanol as a fuel source when they break down those algea feding anions.

unless you really wanna see some funny stuff going on in your tank

Right, that's what I meant  I'm not used to thinking in terms of litres and milliliters and I just got my fingers crossed on the keyboard :fun:
