Haha It's A Boy Finally!

So Synirr sent me these girls and I love them all dearly except the one just kept chasing and flaring the other ones away and I figured I'd take her out and keep her by herself. Now I've had them for 3 weeks I think and I couldn't for the life of me figure out if it was a boy or a girl. She didn't make nests so I thought it was a girl but right now I juussst noticed a nest! So woo hooo I got another boy lol, pretty sad that it he had to be 5 months old til we knew it was a boy!

making a nest doesn't necessarily mean it's a boy, though. i have females who make nests. the mother of my spawn was actually helping the father make the nest, too

yep, probably still a girly, synirr is pretty experianced, it wouldn't be typical of him to mess up like that. the females in most spawns will help the male make nests, and in some cases build the entire nests themselves. even alone they will make nests, just means their happy

Both my girls make bubble nests too.

I always thought it was a boy because the ventrals are quite a bit longer than a females and his anal fin is wayy longer and pointier. I am pretty sure

Aaaactually, one day when I was bagging fish for shipping I was in a major hurry and didn't check for ovipositors, so a few of the people I shipped to on that day did get a male or two I had mistakenly sexed as females in my rush. Redbetta was one of them . It's tougher than you'd think to sex 3 month old plakats!
And yeah, like Durbkat said, I'm a she

Yeah, if the anal fin is long and pointy it's definitely a male. My bad . I hope it's not a problem...
