hey guys!

just like the title says i am thinking about getting a Haddoni Carpet Anemone.. And yes befor anyone asks, i did read "A Short Anemone Guide For Beginners" :)

anyways i'am just wondering what you guys think? i just did a water check and everything is perfict! the readings were:

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
PH - 8.1
Calcium - 425
Alkalinity - 8

and form what i read in the guide thats perfict for nems.

There were only 2 thing in the guide that has not happened yet. 1. the nem has only been at the LFS for 2 days now (should it be there longer) and 2. my tank has not been running for 12 months, it been running for about 7 months. Would this be ok?

Thanks!

ps: here is a link to the Haddoni Carpet Anemone http://www.saltwaterfish.com/site_11_03/pr...oot_parent_id=4

Haddons carpet nems are pretty sensetive to transport, so I'd leave it at the LFS for at LEAST a week, if not more. If after a week its mouth is closed, and the tentacles sticky, go ahead and purchase it, if not, dont waste your money. Once you get it in your tank, they do well on the sand bed in a low to moderate flow area especially at first. They also like high lighting. Not crazy high, but at least a metal halide or a 6xT5 setup.

ok thanks!

well i was at the LFS store again today looken at it the nem and saw there was another carpet nem there it has been there a little longer (like a week or so) and there were 2 small clowns swimming and laying in it. Does this mean it's healthy?
The guy at the LFS stor said it was a giganta(sp?) carpet nem. He said that both the clowns were eating fine, and the nem took a piece of squid today!

If you're happy you can maintain the water quality and provide the lighting needed then go ahead and get the nem that you want. It sounds to me like you've done your research. :good: Just be 100% sure you know what to do should any problems arise and be prepared for them. It would be a terrible shame to see a thread in a few weeks like "Help my nem is dying/has eaten my fish" etc.

Personally as much as I'd like a nem (for purely aesthetic reasons) I can't justify the risks of killing a nem and/or having my fish eaten.

What other fish will you keep with it? I would worry about my fish being eaten  But if you have your heart set on it, then give it a try.

after looking at a few other sights, i found that the nem can eat some of the kinds of fish i wanted... like i wanted a dewarf angle (flame), a saller tang, dimond goby.. but i have a larger tank (77gallons) and the nem isn't very big probly only 2 inc wide and 2.5 - 3 long.. so will there still be a great risk that it could eat my fish? or would it mostlikely not happen?

are there any other nems thatwon't eat you fish?

thanks!

after doing more reasearch i found that bubble tiped nmes are probly the way i'am going toi go.. they will most likely not eat any fish! and clowns still love them!

what do you guyes think?

i'am looking at just a bubble tip, and a rose bubble tip?

Keep a rose bubble tip in my 30 gallon reef, and my tomato clown has taken a liking to it. I would go with the rose bubble tip. none of my other fish have been harmed by it. it was put in the aquarium when the tank was 9 months mature. i say go for it, just make sure you have enough lighting

thats wicked! thanks! with the rose bubble is it only tomato clowns that take a liking to the nem? cause i know someone who has a rose bubble in there 125 and he also has a tomato clown? if so this will be be..but if not even better...

as for lighting i'm not worried at all i have 2 x 175 watt MH bulbs and 4 x 65 watt PC bubls

before i bought my tomato clown i had a percula in the tank and he also lived in the nem, but he eventually died at the age of 8 so thats when i bought my tomato clown

Yeah, carpet nems are some of the most predatory nems, prolly not a good idea with other fish. Bubble tip or Long Tentacled nems are a far better choice for aquarists. BTW, clown hosting of an anemone is NOT indicitave of the health of the nem. A firm foot, good coloration, extended tentacles and a closed mouth are signs of a healthy nem.
