He was fighting with my angel which i moved to my other tank. He then started to pick on the mbu puffer. I had to remove him just in case the puffer became annoyed and bit him in half. The puffer has never shown the slightest bit of aggresion to another fish but I think oscars just have to pick on something. It was quite an unwise choice of opponent however.

Oh well at least everyone else has lots of room now. I hope he goes to a good home

You did the right thing, the other fish in the tank will be a lot better off now. Are you sure the tank is large enough for a mbu puffer though? As far as i am aware, they need a very large tank as they mature.

Sorry to hear that. Oscars are great fish but you did the right thing for all of the fish. You never know until you try.

If this is still the 400ltr tank that he used to be in (i think), then it will be too small. They ideally need a 6x2x2 tank when fully grown (preferably bigger), which is much bigger than this.
So I back Tokis-Phoenix's point up.

didnt the puffer bite a chunk out of the oscars face a few months back?

Yes, the reason for this is that the oscar was trying to eat the food from within the mbu's mouth. If you re read the post where I mentioned this incident you will see that. He was trying to eat his food not bite the oscar. The feeding habits of both fish mean that they both go for the same food. The oscar was unable to grasp the fact that if the mbu has the food halfway down his throat it's probably not a good idea to try and eat it.

Biting a fish by accident because it shoved its mouth into your face whilst it was eating does not count as agression. He didn't try to bite the oscar. The oscar was pushing him around all over the place and still the mbu did nothing. i just didn't want to irritate either fish by keeping them together.

I'd have personally kept the oscar and rehomed the mbu, after all - you could realisticly keep an oscar in your tank whereas the puffer will need a much bigger tank at some point.

TBH, angels and oscars were never going to work anyway lol. Anyhoo - sorry you had to give him away, it feels like poo when you have to rehome something (been there) so hugs from me.

It was hard enough to rehome the oscar. To rehome the Mbu is now impossible. I have no intention of keeping him in a 5ft tank for much longer than another 12 months. His permanent home will be a minimum of 10ft.
