This is a courtorsy post for you guys, 11 fish keeping forums have been hacked to the ground in the last few days inclusing some very well known sites as some of you may know (Aqua Pets UK, TF, AF and many more) along with a list of around 70 random sites, Please ensure your board is upto date and any patches are installed.

Be aware, Be very aware, They will be here but its just a question of when so PLEASE protect yourselfs as many other forums failed to. And please don't think nothing of this as I can show you teh hackers homepage and his victims sites (some of which are much bigger than this site)

Certain exploits in either the forum software, Cpanel, Flashchat or other chat, Shoutbox etc, Thats how so many sites went down (over 100 now), This site may well be in the clear now as it was next on the list but the R!Y Hacking Group website has made a new statement making it sound they will not be hacking anymore forums.

I dont blame you mate. Can i just note that you have only ever some on this forum to flame i have never seen a past about fish.

I found out from other fish sites that contacted me when they were hacked, 11 in total, All forums that have been hacked by the R!Y hacking group are listed in the R!Y forum under "Hacked Sites"

Why would people specifically tell you they have been hacked?

Can you supply a list of forums that have been hacked?

I know Aqua Pets was hacked about 2 months ago, because I was nearly a victim - it sent out virus emails and if you went on the site itself you got a virus too. Luckily my Norton caught it. It's happening to lots of boards, not just fish ones but generally the less recent versions of forums (eg the free ones).

Well in that case mine was hacked as well. It left a virus and luckily it was easy to deal with.
I dont understand though why some forums had to start from scratch? Also why people would go to newstylemedia to report it. Is he on a forum for forum owners then to report it all to? which would explain why he can see if boards are plagerising material.

Sounds like the forum didn't back up stuff, had a virus over a year ago had to have my son computor totally wiped clean lost the lot, through not backing things up.
Got norton now.

Well had it a year norton and just renewed my subscription, had no problems, so fingers crossed.

Actually, I've heard that Symantec/Norton were recently compromised--I've personally switched over to McAfee since it's the less popular software (and therefore the less popular target).
