Well, after losing ChickenMuck Nugget the other day, the last thing I expected was to lose Gordon too :(

He'd had a white patch on his side since the whitespot treatment weeks ago - there were originally two, but one cleared up - and we put it down to damage from flicking when he was poorly. The day before yesterday I noticed the festivums picking at it, that night I found him with fungus on it - so we started treatment for that. Fungus cleared up by morning, but we carried on treating of course - and the patch seemed to be healing up yesterday - it was going back to normal colours. This morning I found him dead under the bogwood :(

So I've lost two plecs this week. I dont think they're connected but obviously I'm not going to be adding to the tank now until I know everything's ok. Params are normal, other fish are fine.

I'm just so upset, my two "fancy" plecs both gone, and no real reason behind it. I could understand if the tank was down with some disease, or the params were bad - but everything's normal - and all the other fish are thriving.

Ahh well :( Down to two commons, a BN and a rusty now (and the cichlids). I dont know whether I should bother getting another plec in the new year. Incidentally though, they both came from the same shop and supplier (our LFS) - and I wont be buying plecs from there again. :-(

Are flash plecs renouned for being fragile as well as nuggets?

:-( Aaaw, so sorry to hear about your plec's passing. Gordon was such a beautiful plec and to loose him after trying everything to heal him. I am so sorry.

:rip: ChickenMuck Nugget and Flash Gordon :rip:

Really sorry to hear this. Of course, you are right to let the tank settle before buying new fish, but don't let yourself get discouraged. These things do happen even to the best fishkeepers, it's not your fault. Inchworm lost a whole load of corys only the other day, too, it's like it's been an unlucky week.

Thanks everyone - you know, I never thought I'd get attached to my fish, especially considering they were relatively new - but reading these made me sniffle a bit :(

I guess I have to look to the positive. Our dark common plec has finally got a nice fat tum, Rusty the rusty plec is growing nicely now they're all in the 6ft tank, Wilf the bristlenose is getting positively obese, and Wide Boy the chocolate albino common is groooowing. Really quickly. Big. He's gone from 2" to 4"+ already, it wont be long til he's Rusty's size! The sevs and the festivums are doing great, I've put some indian fern in and they all love playing about in it (and eating it!), and everyone seems to be really happy.

I think it's just been bad luck. I wont be adding anything til in the New Year anyway, I'll be quarantining my rainbows in a spare tank (if the LFS managed to order them in - if not I'll be leaving it).

Thanks for all the lovely messages :)
