Hi All
3 days ago I notice my keyhole looked like he had a scale missing just above his nose, when there is food about sometimes my keyholes will try get to the food first and one looks like it is kissing the other so guessing it was from one of these that the scale got scraped off.I kept an eye on this and yesterday morning it looked like it had fungus forming so went into pets at home and got fungus treatment and gave tank a clean changed 30% water and cleaned filter in tank water and took out my carbon and as I was putting fresh safe water back in added the fungus treatment into bucket to mix in then poured this into tank.
Today one of my guppies keeps scraping both sides of it body in the substate in a flicking motion and has now taken of some of his scales on both sides in the last hour while I have been watching . Could this be a reaction to the fungus med or do you think this could be the start of ick ?
There are no white spots on any of the fish in question or on any of my other fish ?
Last week one other guppy in the morning had the biggest poo hanging but normal colour , never seen this on a guppy before , then in the evening it was just laying on the floor and the other fish just kept pecking at it so I decide to put guppy to sleep as thought this was kindest thing to do , the guppys are just over a year old so thought this might be down to old age , again all other fish seemed ok .
So now thinking is this a bacterial worm problem, can a bacterial worm problem cause for fish to flick? also the guppy in question its back bone is now curved aswell like the one last week .
water stats all good , tank 2 years old so cycled , no fish or plants added, no chemicals could have got in .
Guppy in question is now just resting on floor level while light is on
sorry for the war and peace but tryed to get as much info on here as possible , no pics I am afraid .
Thank you for reading
Help wanted on this as just not sure

can you please post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

I will need to ask you quite alot of questions to find the problem.

Do any of our fish look thin, or bloated?
Do any of your fish show signs of a sunken in belly?
Do any fish produce white stringy waste. clear mucas waste?
Have you seen any hair like spiky worms sticking out of the anus?
Check all fish anus to see if it's enlarged, or red and inflamed?
Any excess slime, or mucas on fish body, fins, gills.
Do the fish gills look pale, or red and inflamed, or gills that look like there bleeding?
Any red pierce marks on fish body, fins. Or blood spots?
Do any of your fish swim in a jerky motion?
Do any of your fish swim on there sides, or unable to maintain balance in the water?
Do any fish spit there food out?
Any black patches on fins, or body of fish.
Any signs of the fish eyes bulging out.

Tank 2 years old never had water problems

The fungus on keyhole is starting to disapear since putting interpet fungus treatment in but the guppys is flicking like crazy both sideds and has now taken scales of and has bent spine now like other guppy just before it passed on , most of time floating just above substrate all other 4 guppys ok , no signs of spots
hope this helps

The fungus on the fish does it look like white cotton wool?

Some medications can cause some fish to flick and rub on objects in the tank.
It has been known that the anti fungus by interpet can cause bad reactions in fish.
I would maybe think about diluting the medication down with a water change.

Causes of a bent spine.
Old age.
Fish TN.
Internal parasites.
Injury.
Birth defect.
Vitamin deficiency.

Livebearers can sometimes have long trailing waste.

With 2 fish now showing signs of a bent spine I would think about worming your fish once the fungus med has been completed.

Internal wormer. Sera Nematol

Sera Nemotol

A sensational R & D success: sera med Professional Nematol is the first ornamental fish treatment against Nematodes that may be sold freely. It is based on a patented Emamectin/solvent comploly effective against Camallanus and round worms of the genus Capillaria, which mainly occur in angelfish and discus. It can also be optimally used against pinworms (Oxyurida), dreaded by discus keepers. At the same time it combats the small copepods that Camallanus uses as intermediate hosts. Result: A well tolerated and highly effective ornamental fish treatment that can be sold freely is now available for the first time! It is a liquid and therefore can be dosed easily and precisely.

Hi thankyou for your answer so quick I was not sure if they needed worming as never seen any signs but it can not hurt after the fungus meds has had a water change , my 5 guppys are all over a year old but not sure if that is that old for them as different sites give different life span for them some say lucky to get a year and a half others say two years .
The fungus on the spot on my keyholes nose had started to go fluffy but had fungus in a couple of fish before due to injury so saw signs straight away to get treatment , I am very lucky and never had ick in tank only hoping not tempting fate buy saying this so was not sure how quickly spots on the fish show once they have this , but will be keeping a very close eye just to make sure

I had guppys live for over one half years. I think they can live up to two years.
It's up to you if you buy the wormer. But it could just be old age.

It sounds more like columnaris if the growths look like cotton wool.

I find myxazin by waterlife a better med for columnaris. Mild cases only.

Hi the fungus seems to have just about gone but going to leave for the full week just to make sure. I Will do a weekely water change then do I put carbon in for a couple of days before taking carbon out and add the worming meds in tank ?

Just dilute the med down with a little water change. Just to see if that stops the fish from rubbing itself on objects in the tank.
