Can guppies live in a five gallon filtered tank? If so then how many? What other fish can live in 5 gallons apart from bettas?

You could put 2 or 3 male guppies in that size tank - I wouldn't suggest any femles, as you don't want any babies coming along.

You could also have a smallish shoal of chilli rasboras or celestial pearl danios - both of these will do well with a dark substrate to show off their colouration, and plenty of plant cover, to make them feel secure.

The fact that they have somewhere to hide gives them the confidence to come out & about more.

Welcome to the forum! You could do 5 glofish with a couple of shrimp.Glofish are active, pretty fish that top out at around an inch long. Good luck! :good:

crazyforcordoras: Glofish need a MUCH bigger tank. They are genetically mutated danios, and they need, at least from what I've heard, at minimum a 4 foot tank. They're small but fast and need they need space to be able to dart around the tank.

+1 to the_lock_man. If it's the long guppy tail you love, you could try a betta in there! But he's have to be the only inhabitant unless you'd want to try shrimp in the tank with him.

Definitely agree about the Glofish(R), they need to be able to stretch their legs, er, fins, er, well ya know what I'm trying to say. THey do need a very long tank for such a small fish.

A betta with shrimp might work, it might not. My first ever betta totally ignored my cherries. A subsequent one thought they were lunch. It depends on the temperament of the individual fish.

Another option for a 5gal would be a pair of peacock gobies.

I thought celestial pearl danios (aka Galaxy Rasbora) got pretty big, therefore too big for a 5 gallon (I was apprehensive having a shoal of 6 in my 10 gallon)
