Bought this male guppy a week ago and until yesterday it was perfectly fine, yesterday we noticed that his tail was looking a little frayed and seemed to have changed colour. It looked as though it had a paler yellow coating on it. His gills and other fins look fine, his eyes are fine and hes swimming normally. Our stats are good.
Today one of the other fish seemed to have noticed and has been following him very closely every now and again nipping at his tail.
We dont know if this fish has developed this behaviour due to the male guppy having some sort of tail fin infection, as it appears scratched on one side too so perhaps hes scratched it and got it infected somehow....or if this other fish has caused the damage by nipping.
Either way we are worried he is infected.
Could you have a look at the picture and his tail, you can see the scratch and the damage/yellowish coating...and at the end if you zoom in you can see where the other fish has nipped the end of his tail and made him bleed.
We dont have another tank to move him too as we have female guppies in the other tank and dont want them to breed at the moment. all the other fish in the tank are perfectly fine.
thanks for any help and ideas.....is there anything you would recommend us to buy to sooth his tail?
