Ok, everything had been going fine 60l tank 3x guppies 3 x platies.

Put in 3 x corys today..... and bought some pellets for them to eat (King British - mini pellets)

Well I fed them after a few hours of being in tank and all seemed fine. But then i suddenly noticed one of the guppies swimming (or trying to) upside down and all over the place! Now just lying sideways at bottom of tank and trying to swim now and again but not suceeding.

There's a swollen red lump on the side of her and i'm pretty worried ots one of these pellets! They are mini-pellets but even the platies are taking one in the mouth then spitting out and they're bigger than the corys!

Would this guppy have swallowed something simply too large?? There was no apparent swelling or anything up until after feeding (not that i noticed). Pretty gutted now to be honest....

Is the lump really protruding from the body?
Does it look like an ulcer at all?
What are you water stats? If you have them?

So as to not repeat info i've posted the outcome - death (and questions) here: -

I suppose it may have looked like an ulcer - would that appear so suddenly? With hindsight i'd have taken a photograph.

Thanks

Dan

It sounds bacterial to me how big was the red lump.

I'd say it was about 3-4mm - which was pretty big on a small guppy.

So what could have caused a bacterial problem (apart from the obvious bacteria! haha) I'm pretty good with water changes and testing but i do have a problem gravel vacuuming cos I have eco-complete as the substrate so its really hard to vacuum properly without sucking a load of it up....

I don't think it's worth worrying too much about the gravel vacuuming, just as long as you can do at least a surface vac.
