When I woke up this morning, my guppy male was swimming on the bottom of the tank. He wasn't actually swimming, he just hover and didn't look right, he would swim only a few strokes and then hover again. It look's like his belly are swollen. Any idea?

Thanks.

I know this sounds kind of stupid but I read in a book that when a fish gets constipated or had indigestion he will hover on the bottom and his stomach will look bloated. It might could be dropsy. If his scales are sticking out like pinecones then it probably is. Oh, and a question. Is he eating?

I have a male guppy who does that to me all the time. I think part of the problem is that he's a very fancy veiltail and it actually inhibits his swimming, so if he's very full of food, or constipated, he can't actually swim that easily. Shelled, cooked frozen peas are a good cure.

Yes, my male guppies always did that. It was also because of their tail. Eventually they got a hump in their back. They live healthy life though...untill they got fin rot. Yes, feed them vegies, and some live foods, like misquetoe larvea.

My dad is always telling me to "Rule out the little things first before jumping on the big one."

Just because Mr guppy has a bloated tummy doesn't mean its dropsy :p

belly looks swollen, im not sure

sometime fish do that because the temp of the wat is cold for them and they just lay on the gravel
