hey guys one of my guppies jumped out of the tank tonight :(, he musta got out through a gap between the lid and the edge luckily my girlfriend was in the room and noticed he wasn't in the tank and found him on the floor, I hope he wasn't out too long and pulls through alright, but I'm not taking any more chances and will gap proof the tank next chance I get :)

Sorry to hear that m8, I had both of our male swordtails jump out a few weeks ago, but did not find them until they were all dried out and crispy :-( . In a few months I am moving my betta to the 10 gallon tank and buying a 29 gallon for jane's swordtails, guppies and mollies (only guppies and 1 female sword right now) hopefully the swords won't jump then.

now i'm wondering what the best way to cover up the gap will be

I think I will just get some pieces of clear perspex/plexiglass/acrylic (names vary depending where you live) and use silastic to "glue" an overlapped piece of it onto the glass (only on the outside of the glass so its not in contact with the water)

does anyone see any problems with doing that????

I used the clear lens that sits in flourescent light fixtures. You can get it clear or white and it comes in sheets, either 2'x4' or 4'x'4. You have to score it several times so it breaks clean, but thats the same with plexy and acrylic. This stuff is much cheaper too. You might ask your local hardware store if they have any damaged ones you can have free or at a big discount since you don't need long strips. Use 100% silicon to glue it down.

i rescued a 6 inch kissing gourami the other week from my lfs.....and i didnt even get a thanx for savin the 15 yr old £100 fish :/

if u don;t want ur fish to jump out maybe u could lower the water level to like 80% high? that's what i did

or buy a cat n sit it infront of the tank......i think that the fishes would deffo think twice b4 goin for the high jump

I like your avatar Ace Rimmer! hehe

I had a swordtail jump out of my tank a few years back. My dog found him before I did and she ate him!

I have a small hole in my hood and I use a wash towel to cover it up LOL  and it works fine, not expensive either
