Hey,

I have guppy fry, around 6 I think and they are getting bigger by the week and i didn't separate them from the rest of my tank... i decided when they were born to let then live naturally and see how things go.... :/

They all look fine and the other fish don't seem bothered.. i have 5 neon tetras, 2 guppys, 2 mollies and 4 flame tetras. In a very big tank. :D

But when they were born I asked if they would live and everyone said they had no chance... if they are not separated. But mine are doing fine... :)

So from my test I suggest if you have lots of space in your tank not to separate them unless you want them all to survive... but if it is quite a full tank then be a bit more aware.. ;)

I will keep you updated about how my fish do and see if my idea is right. B)
I would like to hear from anyone with more advice. :look:
Thanks.

I have about twenty guppy fry in my tank now which are quite happily swimming about with the rest of my fish, but saying that I did keep them in a breeding trap for the first few months.

I think they are too big to fit in the other fishes mouths now

hey,

lol wow i read the first part and was like 20! then I continued and saw that you kept them in another tank. What are you going to do with them all? 6 fry is enough for me lol ... and I wouldn't want 20 fry really... so I think in future I will continue to stick wit leaving them in the tank with the others!

How big are yours? Mine are still quite small around -------- that long lol jow long are yours? What colours? i have 4 yellow ones and 2 gry white slivery ones... lol

Congrats on the survivors! I usually never have any survivors when my fish give birth in the main tank  , but thats just because I do have a few larger fish... however; I did just find a single little black platy yesterday swimming in the big tank  I was so happy, I seperated him and hes doing great!!!

Meh...you can count on losing them if you want to keep them and you can count on keeping them if you don't have the space for them. It's Murphy's law, you know. I've got three fry right now that started out as four. They were in a 5 gallon tank with three guppies and one swordtail. We didn't do anything to preserve them. All four survived a treatment of ich and we've only lost one, period, since they were born. (Unknown reasons.) Now, they're a little over 1/2 inch long and too big for mom and dad to swallow.

Hey,

koolies.. i think mine r safe now then lol! What colour are yours? some of mine are slightly bigger than others.... do u no why? does that mean what sex they are? and does the colour tell u about the sex?

Hey,

Just wanted to point out the the livebearer form may be a good place for this thread. Not to say it is a bad thing to have it in the beginners form , but a lot of good stuff here for the livebearers. Glad to hear that your Gup fry is doing well :)

Mine are about this long ----- and I have just recounted them and I seem to have another 8

My tank is big enough to accomodate these ones but if there is any more babies I might have to stop the kids having baths

At the current size, they are not really displaying much colour but you can tell the males from the females because the males have black tails and the females are clear.

When I was doing platys, I kept the adults & fry in a 55 with plenty of hiding spots, plants, piles of rock & such. I had dozens of fry, got half a buck each at the lfs.

If you use piles of rock for fry hiding places, just keep an eye on the adults, once in a while one will get wedged in the rocks going after the fry.

One of the local breeders who does platys, swords, & guppies puts the preggo female in a 10 gallon packed with plants. I mean packed, so much java fern & moss you can't see half way through the tank. Tons of hiding places, the fry never get eaten.

Hey,

I wouldn't say mines really crowded but its got loads of good spots to hide.. i find that when they are less than a week old my fry stay under the same plant and they get left alone. I have some older fry right now and they swim around the tank like they are as big as the older fish. The fish have a look at them and just turn away. I think my fry have a good chance to survive becuase i only have 4 tpyes of fish in my huge tank and the fish are all quite small.. i have had the same amount for a while now and they are growing quite fast!

Plez reply if u want!
