Guppy Colours And Breeding

Hey guys,
Do similar coloured male/female Guppys get along better when mating?

My Black with black/red leopard tail guppy chases my single black female everywhere.
My Red/Orange male chases the two Orange females (one more so than the other).
The two Purple/blue females rarely get any attention.

Would it be worth buying another black female and a purple/blue male?

id say get another black female and another male of any colour ( blue/purple if u wish). personally i dont think they try and mate with fish of similar colour...

From my experiences with guppies, the female would just ALWAYS be pregnant, no matter what the color was!

I agree with archamfr. My male and female guppies are the same colour and she hasent had any fry yet. Ive had her for 7-8 weeks and the male for 12-14 weeks. lol. Havent even seen him trying to "prod" her.

Guppies will happily breed with most males, but a study has found that females prefer males with red.

but dont worry about your's just get the fish u want and as long as u got more females to males it should all be fine.

I would say that when it comes to colours and guppys, as others have said, if you keep a male with female guppys they will definately get pregnant regardless of the colour of the male and the females, so when choosing colours/patterns of guppys, its really only a cosmetic appearance thing and nothing more.
Guppys decide their partners based on how other guppys treat them rather than what colours they are, males which spend a lot of time impressing the females or simply aren't nasty to them are more likely to get chosen as favorite males by the females etc- the reason why your purple/blue females aren't getting much attention is much more likely down to other factors like whether they are pregnant or not (and if so, how far along in their pregnancy are they) and what their state of health is like and their age etc.
