Guppy Breeding Tank

Hey all

I'm in love with the idea a guppy breeding tank so I was thinking of the following idea...

Upgrading my main tank to a 60 litre.

Using my 48litre as the breeding tank...

Have several females in the 48. Add a male (or 2 depending on number of females) after they have spawned and the fry are a nice size (so then they're not continually breeding, and also to swap and change males to keep bloodlines diverse).

Males will continue to live in the 60 litre (unless in to breed) and female always live in the 48 litre to keep filter media mature...

Does this sound ok?

Sounds like a good way to go about it. I keep my breeder around 28 C and I get about 90% male. Good luck hope all works. I would also find someone to take the ones you don't want off your hands.

I've already thought about the offspring.

I have friends wanting guppies so they will have first pick, and I have 2 very nice LFS's, one of which will do me a deal on new equipment or plants etc if I give them fish (that benefit far outweighs the monetary value). I would only give them to reputable lfs's anyway.

Also, there is also the option for swapping/selling/giving away on here

I'm looking into pure lines and trying to decide what colour/patterns to breed. I don't want anything with endler in it. Although my 2 males are gorgeous, I wouldn't breed with them.

I think you may need a bigger tank. Most people, especially a LFS will not want fry of a week or two old. They prefer them a few months, 3 or 4 months IME. Growing them on to that size, with the possibility of the mothers producing more fry as they store sperm will make it cramped conditions.
