My Misses keeps asking me if we can have some Guppies in our tank cos she likes em(see sig). I keep telling her "not a good idea", but she doesn't believe me. Please can you tell her why and your experiences with this type of mixture?

Tiger Barbs, (Barbus tetrazona), when kept in numbers, (6+), usually keep themselves to themselves. That said, any trailing fins will be deemed as fair game for them to nip as they flash past.

Guppies and Tigers just don't mix.

Tiger barbs can't resist long, flowing fins like the guppies have. Combine the two and you'll end up with finless guppies.

as everyone else has already said...............the flowing fins would be much too hard for the mischevious tigers to resist.

Tigers-- trust me they can't resist long fins.

Tigers also play kinda...rough and your poor guppies my get abused
Tige barbs playing w/ guppies will go a little something like this:

'chase..chase...nip nip nip.. chase chase chase.. nip nip' with the tiger barbs
doing the chasing and the nipping and your guppies doing the running!

The tiger barbs will have a ball but your guppies my become floaters.
