Some of my guppies are getting white strips through their bodies, making them slightly see through. Does anyone know what this is? I think it's starting to spread too, not just to other guppies but it's spreading on the guppies that already have it.

Do you have any neon tetra's in the tank, if so what do they look like, can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, what size tank in gallons, plus how many fish and which type.

Well, It actually doesn't matter now, I got rid of all my guppies. Sorry guys.

We live with my mom's boyfriend, and things aren't going so well, so I figured it would be best to get rid of all of my fish till I can get a place of my own, plus I was disheartened to find that my very best male with the three prong tail and endler markings died. Besides, a cat and dog aren't hard to move, three tanks are. As it is the only fish I am keeping is my bristlenose, but I'm taking him to the lfs where the lady I know who owns it will babysit him for me while we figure out what to do next.

Neon Disease is among the worst diseases you can have. The cycle is continuous, and will continue to infect the fishes as long as you keep the tank as it is. To remove the protazoan cysts, remove the ornaments, gravel, animals, anything that has been in contact with the water for extended periods of time, even give your hands a good wash. Sterilize everything with the most powerful acid you can find, bleach is usually good enough. Or vinegar and salt should work too(and safer).

Im not sure thats what your guppies were infected with, and certain families of fisk do not normally get it, like cichlids or catfish. This disease usually infects the kidneys of juvinile cyprinids and characins, and appears as bulges in the kidney area, or, as with neon and cardinal tetras, the red line turns white. The cysts gradually replace the animal's muscle fibres. Owch.
