Hi, my tank lights have been off for about 2 hours. I just noticed 4 out of my 5 guppies are laying on the bottom of the tank. I quickly checked the water stats:

Am - 0.0
Ni - 0.0
Na - 20
Ph - 7.4

By this time, I turned the lights on to get a better look. Now only 1 of the guppies was on the tank bottom. I decided to try and net him out - but he swam away seemingly quite happy.

I had to medicate for White Spot three days ago. I am wondering if this is the problem? All other fish appear to be fine. The second white spot dose is due tomorrow, and I am now concerned about adding it.

Any thoughts on what could be going on?

Two hours after the lights went out? I bet they were sleeping (yah I know fish don't really sleep but they do go inactive!)

I bought a few male guppies a week or so ago and put them in my Q tank. Was a bit worried next morning when I saw them lying on bottom of tank, but when lights came on all were up and about quite happily. I googled it and it seems quite common among guppies for some reason.

Are they laying on there sides.
Guppys can sleep on the substate but usually there something wrong if there laying on the substrate during the day.

My guppies also sit on the gravel/ornaments when the light is out. When I first saw this I panicked and thought something was wrong, especially as they didn't move when I put food in - but once the lights went on they gradually "woke up" and were back to their normal, active selves.

The other time you might see guppies at gravel level is when a female is about to give birth. My female always sits on the gravel near to plants when she's dropping fry.

Hey thanks for all the replies! Seems this is totally normal behaviour then. The guppies are totally fine today - that was the first time I have ever seen them sleep on the substrate. :)

Thanks again...

Sleeping fine on the substrate.
But if they lay on it alot during the day there something wrong.
