I live in Hawaii and about a month ago me and my dad were on a bike ride and about a mile or so in the woods we found an old rusted bath tub completely full of guppies. They looked really healthy and decided to take some with me home. All got back safe other than one pregnant female dying a few days later. Thought I’d show u all some photos as they are very pretty and thought it was funny there were so many in a bath tub far into the woods! (Sorry for the blurry photos, they kept moving so fast!)

That's pretty cool. How did you get them home on a bike? Most people don't tend to cycle with fish bags in their paniers!

Water bottle, perhaps?

We went back to the car after we saw them and hiked back where we saw them with a glass jar. We then proceeded to scoop em and walk back to the car and drove home after. Tbh they did really well given how long they were in there and how much they got sloshed around.

Cool! Those are some nice looking fish as well. It is a shame about the other ones though. They won't last long like that. Makes you wonder what would make someone do that. Probably got overwhelmed by guppies and couldn't something to do with them.

I was also quite surprised by how pretty they were. Very different to the completely wild ones here. Oddly enough the remaining guppies looked like they were doing well. Where it is on the island is quite rainy so they don’t need to worry about the water evaporating and being none left. And then There’s fruit trees all around there so I’m assuming they eat whatever falls in. There was a huge population and lots of babies so it looks like they were doing good for themselves. It’s really quite impressive how well fish do over here. Also in the streams By there there’s cichlids and platys and mollys and guppies and shrimp and more!

Amazing! Did you already have a tank cycled and set up at home?

Yup! I got my fair share of fish tanks Set up so all I needed to do was plop these guys in. Another cool thing I noticed about them is they seem to be a lot hardier than your average guppy. Same with a lot of the Other ‘wild’ aquarium fish on the island. I guess because they are use to iffy water conditions so only the ones a lot stronger survive and reproduce. I tried putting a Betta in with them also but they went crazy over him and all tried eating his tail so I got him in another tank now. They are surprisingly aggressive too.

Like this story, they look like they are in very good condition. Do you ever hunt the cichlids etc on the island

They are very healthy! Didn’t see any sign of disease and they are very active. We hunt cichlids to take a look at them but we don’t eat them or anything though xD. Me and my dad go to the stream a lot to catch swordtails, guppies, etc and we once found a convict cichlid. Took him home as it was really dry and days away from their puddle drying up which would result in him dying. He and the others are happily chilling in my 39gal atm. Also I’ve seen a lot on Midas cichlids in a resivour too. Loaddds! Didn’t know what they were will I looked them up. Caught a bunch of them when I went fishing too. They’ve really taken over here. They aren’t native too or introduced intentionally (Unlike the guppies). Completely a result of releasing aquarium fish.
