What is it with guppies constantly sitting at the top of the tank?

One of mine is doing it at the moment. He's been doing it all week. Still feeds ok etc.

Every pet shop I go in, all the guppies (particularly males) are all at the top of the tank, shaking.

Don't think they're going for air, as I have a pump.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Andy.

What are your water stats, exactly?

Guppies tend to hang out towards the top, but them always being there is slightly worrying.

Hi

My water stats are "perfect". I know this isn't much help, but my local pet shop does them for free. Everytime I get them done, they are always perfect, with no need to make any changes. They are a very good petshop.

It's only the one male who is constantly at the top, he does shake a little too. He still gets excited when I go near the tank, if he thinks it's feeding time, and is eating normally. One of the females does go up and sit at the top from time to time, then acts as normal. The other female swims about all day around the tank rarely going to the top. I have 3 in total.

All my other fish are happy as larry.

I have had problems keeping guppies alive, but I think this is down to the over\inter\selective breeding issues.

I'd suggest you get your own test kit and test it yourself. "Perfect" is very subjective. A little bit of ammonia, nothing that would do much to other fish, could be very bad for inbred Guppies. It'd be great if you could know exactly what your own stats are. :)

How often do you do water changes? Is there any salt in the water? And can you describe this "shaking" a bit more?

My males ""Shakes"" when he want to mate with the Females!!!

Dirty Blimin Fish but that could be one of the signs???
