so after reading the breeding article i decide my newest tank mates should be guppies so to lfs i go. and to my glee they have what looks like a pregnant female i bought her plus two males, my problem is when does she go into my newly aquired breeding trap??? i can see the dark spot near her anal fin, about 1mm across

actualy scratch that i reread all the info and i have a bit to wait i think

she will look really big and square at the back when shes ready.good luck.

Just have to add becareful with your ratio, a good stress-free ratio(because males like to pester female ALOT) is 1 male per 3 females. You could provide alot of hiding places for her to go to, but most likely those males will be chasing her 24/7.

thats what i8 thought but the livebearer breeding info suggests 2 males 1 female rite near the start.

Well it's always one of the two ratios mentioned(2:1 or 3:1) but i know personally that 3 females are way less stressed then 2 per male, it's just common knowledge.
Maybe your male won't be too pushy and give it a try with 2 females and see how they are. If they seem like they always have to rest and are breathing rapidly obviously take the hint and either add another female to increase the ratio or add more areas for shelter. :)
