I was wondering... if I am allergic to cats and bunnies/rabbits, aswell as a little to gerbils. Will I be allergic to Guinea pigs aswell? Or do they have hair?
And I was also wondering if you think the best idea would be to get a rescued guinea pig? That is what I am hoping for, and I was thinking I would foster her to see if I enjoy guinea pigs, then adopt. I will be getting my guinea pig in another couple weeks, maybe more. I am hoping for any last minute tips. No worries, I have researched for months, but I still feel I could learn more.

I dont know if you'll be allergic to guinea pigs as well. You're probably best visiting wherever you plan to get it from and spending some time with it to see if you're allergic or not. Maybe a short haired pig would be better than a long haired??

I've had 2 guinea pigs in the past and they really were amazing pets but unfortunately they both died quite young from the same illness, I don't remember what it's called but apparently it's common. They stopped eating their food and within a few days they died, so you'll have to keep a close eye on your pig and go to the vets if it stops eating, although I believe there is a vaccination or some kind of treatment for this that I didn't know about at the time.... :(

My pigs loved lettuce and whenever they heard me open the fridge they would start squeaking and running around! So if you're not allergic I would highly recommend a guinea pig, just make sure you handle it a lot from the beginning and you'll have a great time together.

Do you know any one who has a guinniepig? If so, you might want to spent a few hours with thiers to see if you are alergic. I havn't had one before but I have had a rabbit. I know that iceburg lettece is not very good to give bunnies, I fed mine romane instead. You might want to see if this is the same with guinniepigs. I'm not sure if piggies need hay like rabbits do, but if they do you might want to make sure that your not allergic to the hay. There ar a number of people who end up thinking they are alergic to thier bunnies, btu it is really the hay that is bothering them. There are things you can do to deal with this alergy, like wearing gloves when you touch the hay. Good luck. I'm glad that you are doing so much reasearch. I hope this healps.

I'm allergic to cats, rabbits, mice, rats...and guinea pigs  Guinea pigs actually bother me WAY more than all the others. If I had to guess, I'd say you would be allergic to them. It's best to find one and handle it and see for sure, though.
