When a guest look at a thread, does that add to how many views there are for a particular thread, or do only the members have this effect?

I believe it does contribute towards the count. It's the number of hits the thread gets.

yes guests add to the view counter, as do any bots searching the forum.
That is why you get 100 views and no replies then people moan! lol
