I went to the LFS to purchase a gravel vac and a couple smallish plants. I looked in the corys section and saw the usual trilineatus, peppered, albino bronze, bronze and a couple sterbai. I then checked a tank which had bristlenoses and upside down catfish and to my surprise a large cory easily 2 inches was there. It wasn't labelled and if not for my tank still cycling I would of asked. It was similar to a julii except the dots were a bit faded and markings were less distinct.

can someone try help me guess what it was?

Sounds like a pepper corydoras particularly from the Spots with the hint of navy, as well as the large size(peppers are one of the larger cories).

Not sure about the navy comment, but C.Trilineatus are often mistake for Jullis, is it possible it was a trilineatus? The difference between the two is that the Jullis have much fainter patterns, and they are more of dots than lines.

Nah, It wasn't a trilineatus. I have one in my aquarium (it's friends died) I looked like a proper Julii with spots with alot of space in between. Not a Peppered Catfish they sell those there and it certainly wasn't one. I'll try look thru an index of corydoras or sumthin

Look a bit like this.

does it look like the one in my post?

Similar to this but the spots being larger. and the spots and stripe being more of a dark greyish navyish tone rather than brown.

Corydoras Leucomelas-
General Remarks C. leucomelas is known amongst collectors in the Amazon as ''Maldito'' (the little damned Cory) because it is so common that it brings a very low price. As of 2003, collectors in Leticia, Colombia received U.S $7.00 for every 1,000 C. leucomelas they sold to Bogota exporters. It is still collected, however, as many thousand can be captured in a few hours since it is always found in very large schools.

Geez. I wanna go there.
