So, fingers crossed in a couple of weeks time, Im going to get another tank, 4ft, and was contemplating a single GT (male) for it, now I know not a chance of another cichlid, but what, if any, dithers could I have in there, that a) cant be eaten, b) fast enough and c) clever enough to keep out the way of the GT.

I was thinking giant danios, but having never kept them before do they fit the criteria? Any other options do you think?

SD's are very skittish IME and grow too large.

Anyone else?

tbh I don't think you will find a better dither fish for small/medium sized cichlids than Giant Danios, They are super hardy, extremely quick and boistrous enough to annoy any cichlid that attempts to chase them,

They are also happy swimming at the upper levels of the tank, which some other dithers aren't so keen to do. And with an aggressive GT hanging at the lower levels there is a higher chance of dithers getting into trouble if they aren't willing to use all of the levels in the tank to escape if they get into trouble.

Other dithers you could try are Arulius Barbs or Clown barbs, but admittedly IME GDs are by far the most equipped for life in these kind of setups.

Fantastic thanks Davo, I was hoping they would work ok, well that my stocking sorted, now for the tank :D

Completely off topic...love your sig minxy. And is the fish in your avatar with the ellioti a nicaraguan cichlid?

Ah...I thought it was just a camera faded T.ellioti.

No its a t.aureus (pic isnt great, my camera and my photography sucks) and yes its a nic, thanks :D

why not some filament barbs look stunning when they are bigger and i have some in with my GT male who doesnt bother them as they are too fast they only get around 4-5" vary rarely get 6" as people state unless in a huuuge tank

What about tigger barbs? They are strong fish that can hold their own with larger aggressive fish.

Too nippy, if they decided to nip the GT, he wouldnt take kindly to it and their days would be numbered.

Dont like filament barbs foley, but thanks :)

 you dont like filament barbs they are the sexiest barbs you can buy aside torpedo's buy tehy are too expensive when ur a student haha

How about 6 plus exodons? They will not be afraid of the gt,but will put him in his place if needed.Little pricey but add continuous movement in tank, plus not hard on the eyes either :good:
