I just got a gsp the other day and put him in my 30g w/my figure 8 puffer they are both about the same size the gsp is a little bigger but not much. and they are getting along great they pretty much leave each other alone except for feeding time. but they seem to be getting along ok. today when i was getting ready for work i went to look at my tank before the lights came on and they were sleeping right next to each other :) so any ways my question is do you think i will have to move one of them to a diffrent tank when they get older or will they be fine.

You may have to move them, puffers have a habbit of getting more grouchy with age so theres a good chance the GSP especially will get terratorial with age.

Keep an eye on them but be prepared to move one of them if you get any problems. The main bonus you do have is that the Fig of 8 doesn't need a very big tank so relocation is relatively easy. You may want to consider running a small internal filter in the 30 gal so you've got a ready seeded filter if you get any problems.

Keep us informed and good luck :D

it might work out now but when it grows it will think why am i sharing this tank when it could be all mine and it will kill the fig 8

some species of puffer school as juveniles but none do aas adults. Its generally a bad idea to keep puffers of different sizes together because the larger ones always tend to win any fights that break out and tose beacks can do some seriouse damage and the caudial fin is the only one your puffer can aford to lose.

i have 2 f8's and a gsp together, the gsp is less then an inch. they've been togther for a while. the gsp seems to grow pretty slow. so it should be okay for a while, but like others said, once there is a noticeable size difference, separate them

GSP will be 4-6" fully grown. I've read some being 3" by one year old and else where I read 1.5-2" when one year old.....
