How big to GSP's get? This site says, "Up to 6-in. but usually smaller in aquaria" -- so I was wondering, from experience of those who own them, how big do they get? What is the minimum tank size that you would keep one in? And are they okay to keep alone?

I'm asking because I stopped at the LFS to sell back some platys last night, and I found a couple GSPs in a freshwater tank. I realize they're brackish, and though they're ok in freshwater when young -- I'm just afraid they'll get sold as freshwater fish, and suffer because of it. I wanted to take one home right then and there, but I had NO idea what size they'd get to be or anything.

I *had* been researching dwarf puffers because I wanted to get one for my 6-gallon eclipse tank (which is fully cycled, and has some platys in it right now that are being moved to my 20 gallon). However, nowhere around here sells them.

Would a GSP be WAY too large for it? Right now the little ones there are about an inch -- they're TINY. But I don't know how fast they'd grow...

I feel fairly comfortable about attempting a brackish tank -- I have a saltwater nano-reef (5.5 gallons) that I've had success with so I have a LITTLE experience there.

Anyway... any info and/or websites you could send me to help me do a bit of research would be great! Thanks.

Newbie indeed!

Your 6gal would be way too small. The site was right, they do grow up to 6". They are best kept alone, although, I keep 2 ( :*) ), they are juveniles.
