Last night i fed my GSP a piece of boiled shrimp, and he's still a little bloated. He typically gets pretty rounded when i feed him, but that usually goes away after a few hours. When i woke up this morning, he still appeared to have a belly full of food so i didn't feed him. I would have expected him to have digested his meal by now, but he's still bloated. I'm thinking maybe he's constipated, but I'm unsure how to treat that in puffers. He's acting normal and all, but I'm a bit hesitant to feed him any more until his stomach has shrunken a bit.

Can i ask why you are cooking his food? Is it a regualr thing having cooked food for him?

If so then it shouldnt be, they dont eat cooked meat in the wild. Make sure to vary his diet, crustacians, snails, bloodworm, brineshrimp, pellets (if he will take tem) etc.

I didn't cook the shrimp, they are sold boiled. But if thats a problem for them then i wont do that any more. :)

And yes, he is in a brackish 20g to him self until he is large enough that he needs a larger tank.

I starved him over night and he seems to be fine now, eating well and happy. I'm not sure what exactly was wrong, but if it had anything to do with the shrimp being boiled then he'll have to settle for blood worms and freeze dried. Feeding him shrimp was nothing i did often, just a little treat when i was preparing it for myself.

Dependant on how active the fish is he could just have been full. I only feed my Fig8's every 2nd day. You can use cooked prawns every now and again but dont make it the stable diet. vary his diet, he will need snails though or at least something to crunch on.
