So looks like we had a little power outage today while I was at work. If my bedroom clock is correct, power was probably out for say 3 hours before it was restored sometime around 3pm. Mercifully all my power cutoff mechanisms functioned properly. The sump re-started on its own, and no floor was flooded. However, learned a valuable lesson in fadealing with component failure today... Upon re-starting, my sump pump barely worked and was making a horriffic rattling noise. Remember everyone, pumps rarely stop working when they're running. Its more often when they stop that they break. Thank heaven I had a backup sump pump on-hand just in case this sort of problem happened. Saved me from scrambling to get it back working again. Anyway, swapped out the old mag for a new one. Forgot to take a picture of the insides of the old one, but suffice it to say it was WELL encrusted. A good vinegar bath and rinse later and it was all better mercifully.
Just hope this serves as a reminder to everyone to keep backups on essential components like powerheads or heaters either handy or easy to get, could save you a LOT of hassle.
