Well, I decided to go home this morning from my boyfriends house to check up on my lovely new bumblebee gobies and see how they are doing in their new home even though I was only there yesterday afternoon, so I go into my room and think, aah someone has turned off the spotlight on my betta bowl.........oh, someone had unplugged the light on my adf tank, weird that they didnt use the switch on the tank..........hmm the light is off on my goby tank too, AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! They turned everything off at the wall!!!!!!

So my poor gobies had been about 12 hours with no heat or filtration, they were at 16'C and the bacteria I spent a month preparing on their filter sponge in an established tank is now all dead!!!!!!

I am going to have to cycle with the gobies in the tank

Very very unhappy.

Propmtly went to Homebase and started drilling chunks out of my door to fit a locking door knob so my room is now parent proof, but the damage has been done

very very unhappy about this :(

My dad use to do that with my electronics when I left stuff on, being obsessed with electricity.

Did you tell them what they did? What did they say?

Sorry to hear your news, hope gobies will be OK.

:grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: I agree

Lock on the door, good idea. Perhaps a mousetrap near the plug so next time they try they get their fingers snapped

First i feel bad for your fish and hope everyone makes it. Second,Give your folks a break. do they know what to do in your room (what to touch what not to). And before you ask yes i am a parent (and a nasty one :shifty: ). Perhaps if you explain to them what is going on in there they would not do these kinds of things. It could have been an honest mistake, like the many we have all made along the way. Talk with them and see if things can be worked out, if not then its time to move the fish to somewhere that you have complete control.

P.S. not trying to start a fight just trying to bring the other side of the story out as well. :)

I cannot even begin to imagine how anyone would think that was an ok thing to do, even if they didn't know anything about fish. -_- In fact I'm shocked at anyone having the audacity to mess with someone else's possessions without their permission.

I have to say i am thankful my parents aint too bothered about the electric, because i have alot, and i mean ALOT running in my room, lucky i havent blown up yet with all the stuff i run my fish tanks on, three heaters, a internal filter, a laser light, and three air pumps (I know all about water agitation) but i like the affect.

Oh well, i feel for ya though losing such pretty fish and having someone kill, i would be so angry at my parents if they did that

:(

I hope your gobies will be ok. :/

My dad was always turning electronics off. He would ask me if I owned stock in Commonwealth Edison that he didn't know about.

heh thanks all for the support and making me smile :)

It is their electricity bill so I do see where my parents were coming from but to have pulled the plug on the light on my adf tank and not the heater and filter they must have been struggling to work out how to turn the light off, I dont know why they didnt just ring my mobile but oh well......

Fingers crossed the gobies will be alright but I will be paranoid about them for weeks now having never kept them before I'll think everything they do is a sign that theye stressed

I was just really angry because I had special ordered the gobies and set up my very first brackish tank for them and my step mum used to keep a marine setup so surely she should have known better...but whats done is done....

and whats locked is out of their reach ....:p

Why do parents do things like that. I havent lived at home for a long time, but my mum would not leave things alone in my room at all. Like why even go in there and touch anything.

My room doesn't have a lock on it either and when I'm gone for the weekend my mom tries to feed my fish. One day I woke up really late and saw just how much she was feeding them, I jumped out of bed and had to convince her that my fish will be fine without food for 2 days. She didn't listen and said the fish looked really hungry so I have to hide the food whenever I'm gone.

I hope everything works out OK with your gobies.

Ah such is life

neither of my parents are speaking to me and i have been told that having a lock on my door is 'unacceptable'

any donations for the 'appleblossom needs to find a deposit for a flat' fund gratefully received :/

I don't think you'll need to recycle, we lost all power for a day and I was assured by this lovely forum that the bacteria in your filter will survive turned off for over 24 hours. I think you're fine :p ;)

You could always tell them that your room is your territory, and if you can't have a lock you'll start peeing on the door to mark it as yours  .... Sounds gross but maybe that'll scare them a bit...lol Oh man, i'm glad my moms not quite like that, she just constantly gets on me because my tank is so dark from the driftwood. I think your fishies should be okay though. Good luck!
