My neon has a growth on his mouth. All 5 other fish have no spots or growths

Answer
How big is the tank?
How long has it been like this?
New fish?
Any other symptoms?
40L. Just noticed it today. No new fish, they’ve all been together since early May. Water levels all on point. No other symptoms. 6 neons. 1 cat fish. 1 fighting fish.

It could be caused by the betta , I suggest removing it it is bound to cause trouble

Can you post some pictures that are in focus?
Is the mouth open or is there a white lump on the mouth?

There is a new virus that affects neon tetras and causes a white lump to appear on the mouth. There's no cure for it and the fish live for a few more months before fading away.

It isn't caused by the Betta.

Neons often show these growths. There have beem hundreds of threads about this issue.
Cause meds don't seem to work my suspecion is it is a viral issue like Lymphocystis (it isn't that) . Clean water, good food and acceptance are the only ways to cope with it.

BTW I think one should only remove "accused" fish if one withnesses an attack themselves.
Noticed that lately a lot of tankmates are blamed for things they didn't commit.

These are the best I can get. The white lump is on the mouth, looks like its on his bottom lip.
Is it contagious?

Agreed. Ive spent many of hours watching them and ive never seen the betta nip at them. Too busy watching his own reflection haha

It's a bit hard to tell from the picks but looks like the virus. There's no treatment, just feed them well, keep the tank and filter clean, and leave them be.

If one fish in the tank has it, they all have it. Plus they would have all come from the same supplier so assume they all have it. Fortunately it only seems to affect neon tetras and related fish (cardinals, green neons).
