Hi everyone

I have a yellow male guppy in my tank. I've had him longer than any of my other guppies, about 5 months in total. Unfortunately I wasn't told about cycling my tank when I first bought him, so he's actually the only fish that survived my cycle :byebye: and I think that this has made him weaker than any of my other fish.

About a month ago he started showing symptoms of an internal bacterial infection - he was shimmying, his belly was very swollen and he had very white stringy poo. I treated him for that and although the swelling went down and his faeces got better (sorry tmi!) he still shimmies and he can't swim quite as fast as all my other guppies.

Anyway, to get to the point, last week I noticed a grey patch on his belly so I treated with Melafix and I've done a couple of 20% water changes since but the patch seems to be getting darker.

Is there anything I can do? Is it some sort of slime of fungus? I'm really not sure what to treat him for.

I've attached a couple of pictures, sorry they're not brilliant but he's still fairly active, despite his disability. :/

*My water parameters are ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrates barely reading.
*I do a 20% water change every week, although this has been more often since he's been ill.
*I usually add Stress Zyme and Stress coat to the water when I change it, but I've recently been putting Melafix in.
*There are 4 other adult guppies in my tank, along with about 18 guppy fry.
*The tank is 15 US gallons, 13 UK gallons.
*I haven't added any new fish since the end of August, but all the fry have been born in the tank since then.

I really hope you can help me. He still looks happy and fairly active, but I'm just worried I'm going to lose him :(

It's kind of hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the gray is under his skin. Is it a growth or does it look like it's on the inside? Is it fuzzy (if it's a growth) ?

You say he seems active and fairly healthy so I'd be hesitant to needlessly treat. But if it's an external growth it may be best to remove him if you feel it's spreadable. If it's on the inside try giving him a sliver of pea or garlic (or both)

Hi Wuvmybetta

It doesn't appear to be a growth, well at least it's not 3 dimensional anyway.

I really can't tell whether it's under his skin or not. It doesn't appear to be.

Sorry, I'm not much help am I :/

I've been giving him peas regularly, but I've never tried garlic. Does that do the same thing?

Thanks
Kathryn
