right you mean all glass etc is green. you have algae problems. This is due to either high nitrate/phosphates and daylight. Can you give a little more detail about the tank location size extra and we will try to give a solution. also how much and when are you doing partial water changes

Yes, I agree. Please give more info. If you have it in front of a window, this could be causing it. There are solutions, but need more info. Thanks!

Thanks for the answers right here goes it is the water that is green the glass is clean,as regards the tank it is 30"x15" it is located in the living room not in direct sunlight but the sun does come through the window.I have recently bought a new filter as the old under gravel one had seen better days but the water keeps going green.I change about 25% of the water every 2 weeks as told by the shop where I get my fish from.Hope this is enough info for you and look forward to some answers to my probs.

Sounds like free floating algae.

Do you have a nitrate testing kit, if so test both the tank water and tap water. You need to test the tank water to make sure the water changes are keeping the nitrates low enougth. The reason for testing the tap water is some unfortunate people live in areas where there may actually be as much nitrate in the tap water as the water you are removing. If you dont have a kit, most LFS will do this for you.

Solutions for algae are basically to reduce what it needs to grow ie nutrients. Real plants can help, and or larger water changes but yours sound fine.

Someone might have some other suggestions

Thanks for the reply I will get the tap water and also the tank water tested and see how things are hopefully the fish are ok.Any other info would be great.
